If you were to create a percentage breakdown of all the possible topics covered in all the tarot readings ever done since the very first reading in the history of our civilization, you’d find that well over 90% of tarot reading about relationships. It’s true. Humans are amazing dynamic, unbelievably resourceful, and jaw-dropping-ly adapatable creatures on this planet. But one thing is clear: we are social creatures. And we don’t just crave friends, companionship and filial love. Nope. We crave love and sex and intimacy with a person more special than anyone else to us in the world.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that free love relationship advice is nearly always sought after regardless of where we are in our love life. But having a tarot card reading about relationships isn’t quite so simple. Just like making lots of money won’t make you happy, or eating your favourite food every day won’t be the same the 100th time you dive into that dish, our romantic lives must be considered as part of our whole being an not an isolated hermetically sealed compartment of our lives.
Our career, our family, our wealth, our health, our inspiration, our spirituality, and our mood on any given day play a huge role in our romantic lives. When people request tarot readings for romance, they are looking for a specific answer to a specific question. But it’s sort of like asking an artist to paint a landscape using different paint colours between different lines without mixing the paint. You can’t get a nice landscape painting that way. You MUST mix the colours to enrich the painting and see it as a whole. So while your tarot card reading may be focused on your love life via tarot relationship spreads, or the tarot lovers cards, or an exploration of psychic sexuality, the reality is that other aspects of your life that are seemingly not related to your romantic life WILL likely play a role in your reading. That’s what I refer to in this article’s title: the romance tarot readings are the ‘hook’ that draws you in, but that’s all it is.
On a side note, I used to know of a professor who was quite taken by relationship tarot readings. He would often perform free love and relationship tarot readings for many people as part of his personal research. He would follow up with them, perform general as well as very tailored repeat readings, etc. It was his belief that the tarot cards make their revelations most “potently known” (as he coined it) when the focus is “love”. And while he is correct that love and love readings are transformative experiences, they do not occur in a vacuum. Just as real life doesn’t work that way, neither do relationship tarot readings (even using tarot relationship spreads!).
Another important aspect of a Tarot love reading is that free will supercedes all else. Since either party in a relationship can change their mind or direction at any time,I counsel my clients that the reading can only show the probability of what is to come, and it is never carved in stone. One of the very few exceptions to this is when violence against one partner is seen in which case there is no room for debate.
